Thailand, being
known as the land of smiles, the land of elephants
and the land of Buddhism , is unique for its

Geography
The Kingdom of Thailand , covering an area
of 514,000 square kilometres, lies in the
heart of Southeast Asia, roughly equidistant
between India and China . It shares borders
with Myanmar to the west and north, Lao P.D.R.
to the north and northeast, Cambodia to the
east and Malaysia to the south.
The country comprises 76 provinces that are
further divided into districts, sub-districts
and villages. Bangkok is the capital city
and centre of political, commercial, industrial
and cultural activities. It is also the seat
of Thailand 's revered Royal Family, with
His Majesty the King recognised as Head of
State, Head of the Armed Forces, Upholder
of the Buddhist religion and Upholder of all

Climate
Thailand is generally hot, especially during
the summer months between March and May. Thailand
experiences a monsoon climate with the rainy
season running from June through to October.
September in particular experiences large
amounts of precipitation. The most comfortable
time to travel is between November and February. |

Population
Thailand has a population of about 60 million.
Thais are well-known for their friendliness
and hospitality. The people in Thailand is
Thai (80%), Chinese (10%), Malay (3%) and
the rest are minorities. |

Religion
Thailand is one of the most strongly Buddhist
countries in the world because the national
religion is Buddhism (90%). The remainder
of the population adheres to Muslim, Christianity,
Hinduism and others. |

Thai is usually used and although some regions
speak Malay and Chinese. English is widely
spoken. |
