Executives and employees of the Project 3 Department of Land and Houses Plc recently carried out a CSR activity of seed catapulting for reforestation at Khun Dan Prakan Chon Dam to restore and conserve local natural resources. This critical area needs forest rehabilitation, and reforestation is a healthy way to increase forest humidity, promote biodiversity, and prevent soil erosion.
Known as the “Adding Green to the Sky, Enriching the Earth” CSR activity, this effort saw participation by 76 executives and employees in disseminating plant seeds. Each of these seeds was coated with a protective layer before being dropped or hurled with catapults (or slingshots) to a reforestation patch so that seeds can grow—an efficient, far-reaching means of reforestation. Before the launch of this activity, officers at the dam welcomed the group and briefed them on proper seed catapulting together with the significance of forest rehabilitation, thus giving them a clear understanding of proper catapulting techniques. This activity is expected to grow not only forest areas but also biodiversity.Within a year, the seeds will sprout and develop into saplings; eventually a fertile forest will evolve to enrich the environment and sustain wildlife habitats.
Located at Ban Tha Dan, Tambon Hin Tung, Amphoe Mueang, Nakhon Nayok, Khun Dan Prakan Chon Dam forms part of the Upper Nakhon Nayok Valley Development Project, designed to provide downstream residents with water for agricultural purposes and consumption. It also eases annual floods, known to be prone to the province, and supports industries in addition to solving acid soil conditions. The dam provides a water repository, with allocation to 185,000 rai of irrigated areas via the former Tha Dan Project (6,000 rai), Tha Dan Expansion Project (14,000 rai), and Nakhon Nayok Water Transport and Maintenance Project (165,000 rai). The province is now an effective water source for not only consumption and the industrial sector, but also flood and acid soil prevention.
The teambuilding activity of February 7 aligns with a long-standing policy of Land and Houses to encourage employees to practice environmental stewardship and cultivate their forest conservation awareness as well as awareness of the significance of engagement in socio-environmental responsibility.
